About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Chicago’s vibrant Southwest Side, El Tarasco offers an authentic Mexican dining experience that goes far beyond the ordinary. As a cherished local gem, this restaurant perfectly blends traditional Latin American flavors with a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes every visit feel like a special occasion.

El Tarasco’s menu is a celebration of Mexico’s rich culinary heritage. Whether you're stopping in for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, each dish bursts with vibrant, deeply satisfying tastes. Breakfast lovers rave about the Chilaquiles Rojos Con Cecina, a sizzling plate of crispy tortillas drenched in rich red salsa and topped with marinated dried beef that awakens your palate with every bite. The Menudo, served fresh on weekends with garnishes of onion, cilantro, and lime, delivers a hearty and comforting experience, perfect for those seeking true Mexican soul food.

For those craving something more classic, the Carne Asada Tampiqueña stands out—grilled to tender perfection and paired with flavorful sides, this dish showcases expertly balanced smoky and savory notes. The Sope al Pastor Pork and Sope Asada Steak, topped with beans, lettuce, sour cream, cheese, and tomato, present a delightful combination of textures and fresh toppings that feel both traditional and indulgent. And don’t miss the Chorizo Burrito Dinner or the ever-popular Fajitas de Pollo, which sizzle with enticing aromas and bold flavor profiles.

El Tarasco’s beverage selection is equally compelling, elevating your meal with handcrafted drinks that capture the spirit of Mexico. The famed Mangonada Margarita perfectly balances sweet, tart, and spiced flavors, delivering a refreshing zing that lingers pleasantly. Lovers of classic cocktails will appreciate the Modelo Michelada and the vibrant Margarita on the Rocks with Topo Chico, while tropical favorites such as the Pina Colada and the Cantarito Tarasco add a festive touch to any occasion. For convenience without compromise, their thoughtfully prepared to-go cocktails—ranging from Margaritas to Mojitos—bring the fiesta wherever you are.

Beyond food and drink, El Tarasco offers a welcoming, lively ambiance shaped by attentive staff who truly care about your dining experience. Long-time patrons, like Rene Valtierra, highlight not only the affordability and authentic flavors but also the consistently warm service that makes them return. Marybelle Rosado’s praise for hot, delicious food paired with friendly service underscores how El Tarasco thrives on genuine hospitality.

Whether you’re seeking a flavorful breakfast kick-start, a festive dinner with friends, or expertly catered events in their banquet hall, El Tarasco embodies the heart and soul of Mexican cuisine in Chicago. With every savory bite and perfectly mixed drink, you’re transported to an irresistible culinary journey that feels like home.

Love to come for breakfast. Food is cheap and taste great. There drinks are always good too. The mangonada Margarita is the best. The Cafe Olla here is also very good. Over all great prices, good food and very attentive staff.
